Title
Across the Divide
Purpose
The drill focuses on improving dribbling skills and the ability to shield the ball against defensive pressure.
Setup
- Set up a rectangular play area measuring 30 yards by 20 yards.
- Designate two players as DEFENDERS in the center of the play area without any balls.
- Position the remaining players (ATTACKERS) along one end line, each with a soccer ball.
How To Play
- The ATTACKERS must dribble their balls from their starting line to the opposite end while avoiding the DEFENDERS.
- DEFENDERS attempt to knock the ATTACKERS' balls out of bounds by any means necessary.
- If an ATTACKER loses their ball, they switch roles and become a DEFENDER.
- Continue the game until only one ATTACKER remains on the field.
Coaching Points
- Advise players to maintain low body posture for better balance.
- Emphasize the importance of head up, scanning for DEFENDERS.
- Remind them to protect the ball with their body.
- Motivate players to use various dribbling techniques to keep the DEFENDERS guessing.
