Title
Circle of Control
Purpose
This drill is designed to enhance players' accuracy in passing and to foster rapid decision-making skills as they strive to keep possession against defenders in a limited space.
Setup
- Form a circle using cones, with a diameter of 10 yards.
- Designate two players as defenders, who will wear yellow pinnies.
- Gather the remaining players around the inner circle, ensuring one ball is available.
How To Play
- The defenders start in the middle, while the attackers work together to keep the ball away by passing.
- The drill begins with a free initial pass among the attackers.
- Attackers can move freely within the circle to create passing opportunities.
- If a defender gains possession, they switch roles with the attacker who lost the ball, taking the pinny.
- Should a pass go out of bounds, the responsible player must swap with the longest-serving defender.
- If the attackers complete 10 successful passes, the defenders must run a lap around the perimeter of the circle.
Coaching Points
- Urge players to make quick decisions and movements.
- Ensure players make precise, accurate passes.
- Promote effective communication among teammates.
- Encourage using first touch to place the ball into advantageous spaces.
