Title
Dodge and Pass
Purpose
The purpose of this drill is to develop players' ability to pass effectively under pressure while enhancing their agility and awareness in a competitive setting.
Setup
- Set up a 20x20 yard grid, tailored for the number of players.
- Each player has a soccer ball.
- Designate three of the players as 'passers' and the others as 'dodgers.'
- Ensure sufficient space outside the grid for players to retrieve balls once hit.
How To Play
- Passers dribble within the grid, trying to pass and hit dodgers with their balls.
- Dodgers must avoid getting hit by moving strategically inside the grid.
- When hit, dodgers retrieve a ball from outside the grid and switch to the passer role.
- The drill continues until only one dodger remains, who is then declared the victor.
Coaching Points
- Encourage dodgers to stay agile and make quick lateral movements to evade incoming passes.
- Advise passers to maintain ball control and keep their heads up to assess the field.
- Highlight the significance of teamwork, suggesting passers coordinate to cover different areas of the grid.
- Emphasize the importance of using accurate passing techniques to effectively reach dodgers.
