Purpose

The purpose of this drill is to develop players' speed in dribbling while also enhancing their ability to quickly change direction and stop.

Setup

  1. Mark a square area that measures 10 yards on each side.
  2. Position two players diagonally at opposite corners of the square.
  3. Provide each player with a soccer ball.

How To Play

  • At the coach's signal, players dash around the square while dribbling their balls.
  • When the coach calls 'FREEZE', players must stop their balls immediately.
  • Upon hearing 'SWITCH', players must change direction and continue dribbling in the new direction.

Coaching Points

  • Remind players to stay low and balanced during sudden changes in direction.
  • Highlight the importance of rapid acceleration and deceleration with the ball.
  • Focus on maintaining close ball control at high speeds.
  • Encourage players to use both feet for dribbling.
