Purpose

The drill aims to improve players' dribbling abilities and enhance their reaction to various game situations by requiring quick decisions.

Setup

  1. Set up a grid of 25x25 yards using cones.
  2. Give each player a soccer ball and allow them to begin inside the grid.

How To Play

  • Players navigate within the grid while dribbling their soccer balls, focusing on control.
  • On the signal 'Sprint!', players must sprint full-speed throughout the grid, maintaining ball control.
  • At 'Close touches!', athletes lower their speed, making quick touches as they dribble.
  • When 'Freeze!' is announced, they should halt movement and secure their ball with their foot, ensuring stability.
  • The command 'Shoulders!' prompts players to lightly bump shoulders with another while keeping their ball at their feet.
  • Additional fun commands can be given to encourage creativity (e.g., 'Spin!' instructs players to spin with their ball).

  • Adaptability and creativity in movement are essential during this drill.
  • Always keep your eyes up to monitor your surroundings.
  • Control of the ball should be maintained regardless of speed changes.
  • Fine, delicate touches will help maintain accuracy, especially when slowing down.
