Title
Dynamic Cross and Finish Combo
Purpose
To develop players' ability to execute crosses and finish with precision during high-pressure situations.
Setup
- Divide players into four equal groups.
- Place two groups on the end line, about 5 yards from the posts on either side of the goal.
- Position the other two groups 30 yards out, directly in line with the end line groups.
- Set up two markers on each side of the 18-yard box, level with the goal, and two more near the sideline.
- Balls start with the players positioned 30 yards out.
How To Play
- Two players from the end line move toward the ball.
- They should be spaced 5-7 yards apart when checking in.
- The ball is passed toward the front player, who dummies the pass, allowing it to run through.
- The front player then curves their run around the back marker, aiming for the far post.
- The second player, behind the first, plays the ball into space near the sideline for a quick one-touch cross.
- The second player makes a run to the near post, while the outside player crosses the ball into the box.
- Players rotate positions after each sequence, ensuring everyone practices both post runs and crosses.
Coaching Points
- Focus on delivering accurate crosses that match the positioning of the runners.
- Timing of the runs is crucial—ensure no one enters the box too early or too late.
- Encourage one-touch passes and finishes to increase the pace.
- Front post runners should make sharp cuts, and back post runners should be aware of their timing.
- Ensure good shooting technique with finishes aimed on target.
