Goal Dash Showdown
Purpose
The goal of this drill is to sharpen players' attacking and defending skills while promoting fitness and quick decision-making in competitive scenarios.
Setup
- Set up a full-size goal and have a goalkeeper positioned inside.
- Divide players into two equal teams, positioning them by each goalpost.
- Have the first player from each line place one hand on their respective goalpost.
- Place a cone approximately 20 yards from each goal directly in front of the lines.
- Ensure ample soccer balls are available for the duration of the drill.
How To Play
- On the coach's signal, players race around the assigned cone.
- As they approach the cone, the coach introduces a 50/50 ball between the two players.
- Both players contest for possession of the ball and drive towards the goal.
- Upon securing the ball, each player attempts to score against the goalkeeper.
- A point is awarded for each goal scored.
- The first team to accumulate 10 points is declared the winner.
Coaching Points
- Highlight the importance of being aggressive in winning the 50/50 ball.
- Emphasize the need for players to sprint explosively around the cone.
- Remind players to remain tenacious in defending against their opponent.
- Foster an atmosphere of enjoyment and healthy competition throughout the drill.
