Title
Obstacle Dribble
Purpose
The drill aims to develop players' dribbling abilities and agility in a fun, competitive setting, enhancing their overall ball control and movement skills.
Setup
- Set up an obstacle course using an array of cones and training poles arranged in varying patterns.
- Position players 3 yards from the starting line.
- Include 5-7 cones as hurdles, spaced 1 yard apart.
- Place 5-7 training poles spaced 3 yards apart for weaving.
- Construct zig-zag pathways that are 3 yards wide with 4 yards between turns.
- Ensure flexibility in the course design for different skill levels.
How To Play
- Each player starts with their own soccer ball at the beginning of the course.
- On the coach’s signal, players pass the ball to the coach who stands nearby, then jump over the hurdles.
- After clearing the hurdles, players receive their ball from the coach and begin weaving through the training poles.
- Following the poles, they maneuver through the zig-zag section, finishing with a sprint back to the start.
- Players should practice dribbling with both feet while maintaining control of the ball.
- After a turn, players should return to their starting position for the next run.
Coaching Points
- Encourage frequent head checks to enhance spatial awareness while dribbling.
- Emphasize light, quick touches to improve ball handling.
- Instruct players to explore different dribbling techniques to aid creativity.
- Remind them to keep the ball within close range at all times for better control.
