Purpose
The drill aims to enhance players' dribbling skills, quick decision-making, and teamwork through an engaging and active setup.
Setup
- Create a square grid measuring 20x20 yards using cones.
- Place a cone or flag around 10 yards beyond each corner of the grid.
- Ensure each player starts with a soccer ball inside the grid.
How To Play
- Players begin dribbling within the grid, maintaining ball control.
- A designated coach randomly calls out a player's name.
- The named player quickly drives towards one of the corner flags and circles it.
- All other players must then follow to the same flag, returning to the grid promptly.
- The last player to re-enter the grid performs a predetermined fitness drill, like jump squats or burpees.
Coaching Points
- Urge players to vary their dribbling techniques, like using feints and changes of pace.
- Encourage players to maintain an upright posture while dribbling.
- Promote awareness of teammates and maintain safe distances to prevent collisions.
- Focus on using both feet for better control.
- Highlight the importance of acceleration and deceleration during the drill.
