Title
Predator Prey Pursuit
Purpose
The purpose of this drill is to improve dribbling skills while enabling players to think quickly and adapt their movements to avoid opponents.
Setup
- Set up a rectangular playing area measuring approximately 20x10 yards using cones.
- Gather all players with a soccer ball to stand within the area.
- Designate 2 players as 'predators' who will start without balls.
- Mark 3 safe zones within the playing field for players to briefly escape the predators.
How To Play
- Players act as 'prey' navigating through the area while dribbling.
- Predators attempt to steal the balls from the prey. If a prey loses their ball, they switch roles and become a predator.
- Players can enter the safe zones for a limited time but must leave after a countdown.
- The game continues until all the prey have turned into predators; the last remaining prey is the victor.
Coaching Points
- Foster creative thinking in strategies to outsmart the predators.
- Advise players to maintain awareness of their surroundings to evade predators.
- Encourage players to use various dribbling techniques to enhance their evasive maneuvers.
- Highlight the importance of controlling the ball closely, especially in tight spaces.
