Title
Shooting Stars Showdown
Purpose
This drill aims to enhance shooting accuracy under competitive conditions while focusing on the power and control of strikes.
Setup
- Set up a full-sized goal without a goalkeeper.
- Arrange five cones in a semi-circle, 10-20 yards away from the goal, adjusting the distance based on player skill.
- Pair players so that one acts as the shooter and the other as the ball retriever.
- Each pair is assigned one ball for the activity.
How To Play
- The shooter begins at the first cone and attempts to score without the ball bouncing.
- If the shooter misses or the ball bounces, the retriever collects and passes it back it for another attempt from the same cone.
- A successful score allows the shooter to progress to the next cone.
- The fastest players to score from all five positions are declared winners.
- After one round, players switch roles for variety, ensuring each gets a chance to shoot and retrieve.
- For younger participants, allow for more leniency regarding bounce rules while focusing on shot power.
Coaching Points
- Highlight the importance of following through on shots for more effective strikes.
- Instruct on the optimal position for the non-kicking foot for stability and better control.
- Remind players to maintain composure under pressure to improve accuracy.
- Teach proper body positioning when shooting for enhanced power and precision.
