Title
Solo Showdown
Purpose
This drill aims to develop players' skills in rapid decision-making and enhance their proficiency in both attacking and defending during one-on-one encounters.
Setup
- Set up a starting cone 25 yards away from the goal.
- Divide players into two teams, ensuring one team wears pinnies.
- Place several soccer balls near the defensive team by the goal.
- Position the attackers at the starting cone.
- Optionally include a goalkeeper.
- Each match should last for a duration of 5 minutes.
How To Play
- The defensive player begins the drill by passing the ball to the attacking player and immediately challenges them.
- The attacking player aims to dribble past the defender and shoot on goal.
- Each successful goal earns a point for the attacking player.
- If the defender regains ball control or a goal is scored, the next pair steps in for their turn.
- After 5 minutes, teams switch roles between attackers and defenders.
- After two complete rounds, count the total points to find the winning team.
- In the case of a tie, execute an additional round to determine a winner.
Coaching Points
- Attackers should display quick footwork and boldness when engaging the defender.
- Close the gap quickly and slow down for precision as the defender approaches.
- Defenders are encouraged to cut down on space and redirect attackers to less favorable areas.
- Emphasize balance and mobility through keeping a low center of gravity.
