Sprint & Shoot - The drill is designed to improve players' ability to execute quick passes and accurate shots while encouraging effective movement and balance in game-like scenarios.

Setup

  1. Create a channel with 10 cones leading to a goal area.
  2. Place a few cones on either side of the channel, angled toward the corners.
  3. Set a goal at the end of the channel.
  4. Designate a coach to stand inside the goal to aid in ball retrieval and return.
  5. Position the first player in line with a ball, starting about 7 yards behind the channel entrance.

How To Play

  • The first player starts with the ball and passes it down the channel to the coach.
  • After the pass, the player makes a quick sprint towards the coach.
  • The coach will return the ball, which the player must receive with a quick touch and pass it back immediately.
  • The player then backpedals and runs around the cones to simulate re-positioning for a shot.
  • Once around the cones, the player takes a running shot on goal, focusing on accuracy as they advance.

Coaching Points

  • Encourage players to maintain a low center of gravity for quicker turns around cones.
  • Focus on dynamic footwork to enhance quickness and agility under pressure.
  • Highlight the importance of maintaining balance and composure while shooting on the run.
  • Reinforce the need for accurate passing back to the coach during fast-paced transitions.
  • Stress the significance of reaction time in response to the coach's varied ball returns.
