Stop & Go - This drill aims to develop players' dribbling proficiency and their ability to respond swiftly to commands, improving their situational awareness and control under pressure.

Setup

  1. Assemble a group of players along one sideline, spaced evenly, each with a soccer ball.
  2. Mark a finish line on the opposite sideline.
  3. Have the coach stand 15-20 yards from the start line, facing away from the players.

How To Play

  • The coach facilitates the drill by calling out 'GO' to signal players to begin dribbling toward the finish line.
  • When 'STOP' is called, players must come to a complete halt and control their soccer ball.
  • Any player still moving when the coach turns to face them must return to the starting position before rejoining the drill.

Coaching Points

  • Encourage players to keep their heads up while dribbling.
  • Emphasize the importance of quick, controlled stops when responding to commands.
  • Promote the use of both feet while dribbling to enhance versatility.
  • Remind players to listen closely for commands to improve on-pitch awareness.
