Technique Target Practice - This drill focuses on improving shooting accuracy, enhancing passing skills from distance, and serving as an engaging warm-up to prepare players for practice.

Setup

  1. Divide players into three equal squads.
  2. Position cones at key locations around the penalty area (18-yard box).
  3. Ensure each player is assigned a ball.
  4. Sequence the players within each squad by numbering them.

How To Play

  • Players will take turns attempting shots on goal based on their assigned number.
  • Techniques for each round are selected by the coach. For example: standard shot, drop kick, drop half-volley, juggle kick, etc.
  • The goal is to strike the net directly or hit the crossbar for an added challenge.
  • Each session lasts for 4 minutes or until a player achieves 10 successful hits.
  • Players are responsible for returning to their spots swiftly after retrieving their balls.
  • After completing a round, teams will switch to a new cone position to practice varied shooting angles.

Coaching Points

  • Advise players to focus on shooting technique and pinpoint placement within the goal.
  • Challenge players to enhance leg strength by increasing the number of repetitions.
  • Modify cone distances for younger players to ensure engagement and success.
