Title
Trap and Throw
Purpose
This drill emphasizes mastering ball control and trapping skills under pressure, helping players improve their ability to receive and pass in game situations.
Setup
- Set up a 40x60-yard playing area with a goal at each end.
- Divide players into two teams of 6, with one goalkeeper per team.
- Ensure each team has pinnies, and all players have a ball.
How To Play
- Start with one team holding the ball.
- A player throws the ball to a teammate, who must trap it on the ground before picking it up again.
- The receiving player then throws the ball to another teammate, repeating the process.
- Players must remain stationary when holding the ball.
- The defending team tries to intercept or disrupt by controlling the ball in the air or recovering a poorly trapped ball.
- Goals can be scored from anywhere on the field if the ball is controlled and shot immediately after trapping.
Coaching Points
- Emphasize precision when trapping the ball.
- Encourage quick decision-making and passing under pressure.
- Highlight the importance of off-ball movement to create space.
- Reinforce good positioning to intercept the ball.
